This post is all about how to be proud of yourself.
Are you constantly facing the struggles of getting stuff done but never feeling satisfied or proud of yourself?
I’ve been there.
You do something you thought was decent or good and all of a sudden someone else does the same thing or does it better, and all of a sudden your effort doesn’t mean anything anymore. Me too.
So, I guess the first way to start being proud of yourself is to stop comparing yourself.
Instead, follow the five tips I have below that guide you to how you can be more proud of yourself.
This post is all about how to be proud of yourself.
Disclaimer
I am not a professional, expert, or psychologist. I don’t know the scientific way of how to be proud of yourself. The tips that I list below are based on what I have seen and experienced only. You, the reader, will be read your own risk and should not make any important decisions based on what is said in this post. If you need help, you should seek help from a professional. I cannot guarantee that you will be able to be more proud of yourself after this post so do the best you can and/ or do more research.

Let’s begin.

How To Be Proud Of Yourself
1. Only Produce What You Would Be Proud Of
The first step to being proud of yourself is doing things that are worth being proud of.
Have you ever put in the bare minimum of work possible because all you care about was getting it done but not doing well on it?
Well, you probably ended up getting the grade that you deserve.
Were you proud of yourself? Probably not.
But even if you didn’t care about what grade you did or didn’t get, you probably still aren’t proud of yourself because you know you can do better. Don’t be that person.
I can confidently say that I am very thorough in doing my assignments.
I am also convinced some of my lab partners or study partners don’t like me for my work ethic (but they still like me for everything else hehe.) It’s mainly because I am so motivated and I like to get things done right on the first try whereas they mainly want to get it done in general.
I am very adamant about getting work done after the first attempt just so I don’t have to do it again. (Time is money you know!)
If you have a project to do, you have to put 105% into your efforts. Read over the rubrics multiple times. Do whatever you need to do to make sure you tackle your assignment with a lot of thoroughness (is thoroughness a word?).
Do whatever it takes to make the assignment proud worthy.
2. Think About How Much Effort You Put In
You don’t only have to be proud of what you produce. You can be proud of yourself in what you do too.
The journey that you go on to produce that awesome project is something to be proud of.
You can think about how much research you did. You can think about how much time you put into the project.
Just knowing that you put in all the effort you possibly could have should be something to be proud of.
One project I did back when I was in high school that I am still proud of to this day.
I had to give a presentation on the significance of the ‘A’ in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. (I like this book because of its simple storyline despite its complex writing style.)
My grand idea for how I would present that topic was to make a giant physical red ‘A’ out of cardboard and yarn.
I kid you not, I got two of those science fair project boards (in red), outlined the ‘A’, cut up the cardboard box, and hand sewed each cardboard piece together to make a giant physical 3D ‘A’.
If only I had a picture of it. I know my teacher does because she was equally impressed and kept it in her classroom for the next few years.
Anyway, that ‘A’ took me about 15+ hours to assemble.
I am proud of myself for putting in that much effort into a project and seeing its successful result (yes, I got an A.)
So, be like me, think about the journey, enjoy the journey, and do well in everything that you do. It’s worth it.
3. Always Try To Improve
After you have produced what you are proud of, seen the result, thought about the effort you put in, you can start thinking about how you can improve for next time.
You may be thinking, “Wait, what? Why would I need to improve if I already did well?”.
If you want to be proud of yourself and continue being proud of yourself, you have to strive to always improve.
Think about it.
If you complete that project, put in a lot of effort into it, but only get a 98%, don’t you wonder about what you could’ve done to get that extra 2%?
Obviously, the grade isn’t everything but what I am trying to say is that you should think about how you feel as a person for being able to correct those mistakes and get it right regardless of the grade.
(Lol, did that make sense? I’m definitely writing this blog post at 11 pm right now because I got slammed busy with school and also traded in lots of study time for college events. Whoops.)
If I’m being completely honest, there are plenty of times where I complete something with the mindset of it being “good enough”.
But do you know what was always guaranteed each time I did that? I always ended up thinking about how I could have done better. I also think about how if I had just put in a little bit more effort, the outcome would have been more worthwhile.
But you know, life gets in the way sometimes and you have to do what you need to do.
I’m just saying if you have the opportunity to put in more effort for a better outcome, do it.
Improving is always something to be proud of.

4. Reflect On Your Past And How Far You’ve Come
I guess this one might go hand in hand with the last point, but for this one, I want you to reflect on your general past.
I don’t mean to reflect on something you accomplished yesterday.
Instead, think about how you went from a single 20-year-old to a married 30-year-old with kids (This is an example by the way).
If you think about the past in a longer-term sense like in the example, it is very easy to be proud of yourself.
You can also think about your thoughts and emotions back when you were that 20-year-old. Then, you can think about how you think of yourself and your life now.
When I think of something to be proud of in my past, I think about how many rejections I went through, how many crying nights I went through, and how many bad grades I went through to realize that nothing is the end of the world and that I can get over it all and move on.
I’d say that’s a big thing to be proud of.
Also, I feel like a strong, independent woman who is ready to take on any obstacle and am proud of my past self for getting me to where I am today.
I am positive there is something for you to remember and reflect on that you will be proud of too.
Just dig deep down and find those good memories.

5. Acknowledge ALL Your Accomplishments
I want to add that you should always acknowledge all of your accomplishments because we are our worst critics.
To us, everything we do is never enough. Everything we do isn’t the best.
Why are we so harsh on ourselves? I have no idea, but for some reason, that’s just how we are.
We compare ourselves to others and always think about how someone else did it better and how you’ll never compare.
These thoughts then lead you to downplay your accomplishments and see them as something not worth celebrating.
So, I believe that if we acknowledge every little thing we do and celebrate every little accomplishment we come across, we will get sufficient practice in being proud of ourselves.
Over time, being proud of yourself will become a habit.
You’ll feel more satisfied with what you are doing. You’ll eventually realize that you are doing very well in life just like everyone else.
So, celebrate every accomplishment that you have no matter how small. If you figured out how to use that new piece of technology, celebrate it! Literally, celebrate everything. I can only repeat myself so many times.
Ending Note
And there you have it. The few ways of how to be proud of yourself.
These are the tips and tricks that I follow for myself and I think they have been really good to me so far.
I do everything and think of everything much more intentionally now.
Honestly, I feel like my life has more purpose, I feel much more content with what I can get done, and I feel more confident in what I have already done.
