This post is all about creating your ideal morning routine.
Are you tired of feeling sorry for yourself because you don’t have a perfect, aesthetic morning routine like everyone else on the internet? I’m going to give you 21+ ideas so that you can create your ideal morning routine.
The purpose of sharing these ideas of creating your ideal morning routine is to encourage you to take action and put your life back into a better place.
I have only recently realized that I wanted to establish a set morning routine.
It was when I started focusing on my mental health that I realized I have a lot of mood swings. My moods would change so fast at random times. I would never know what I want, what I need to do, what I should do, or what I want to do. Everything was so unknown.
I did some research and having a morning routine is a great way to start off the day because your body will start to expect certain things to happen and nothing will come as a surprise. This would eventually lead to more stability.
Hopefully, as time goes on, I’ll feel more mentally stable and I’ll be able to think more clearly than before.
This post is all about ideas to create your ideal morning routine.

21+ Ideas To Create Your Ideal Morning Routine
1. Start Your Ideal Morning Routine With Waking Up
This one is obvious! Set an alarm and don’t forget to wake up and get up as soon as your alarm goes off. You might feel groggy if you lay there any longer. Or take all the time you need. Both ideas work. (Just get out of bed within the next 15 minutes to get started on the morning routine.)
2. Get Out Of Bed
I thought it was absolutely necessary to add this one to the list even though I literally just talked about it because I know how hard it is to get out of bed. We so desperately want those extra 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or even 15 minutes of sleep so we hit the snooze button and lay longer. But now you’ve started off your morning being lazy. So get your a** out of bed and become your best self.
3. Meditate
I still have not figured out the peaceful feeling of meditation. I tried the Calm app once. Maybe I don’t do it enough. Maybe I don’t do it long enough. Meditation has not spoken to me but I’m sure I’ll figure it out one day. Apparently, the gist of it is that it is supposed to help you reach your inner peace and help you feel super lightweight or something like that. I have no idea.
4. Drink Water
This is a must for every morning routine because you just slept for many hours and your body is probably dehydrated. It also feels good to feel the nice cool water flow throughout your insides. (Or it’s just me, hehe.)
5. Stretch
Again, your body just spent hours laying still. Stretching helps your muscles release and get ready to get back into the groove of moving around again.
6. Exercise
Exercising is a great way to start your morning because it gets your blood flowing and your body moving again. You also get long-term benefits from exercising too. (I’ll let you do your own research on that topic.)
7. Shower
If you exercise, you need to shower about an hour after you’ve cooled down. You don’t want to clog up your skin pores with sweat. Not to mention you’ll feel much cleaner and relaxed after a warm shower.
You could also shower right after you wake up. I’ve heard that a morning show is an effective way for waking up and feeling relaxed too.
8. Write Down Your Goals
You don’t have to be a writer to write down your goals. But writing, in general, would improve your skills over time. You can write down your goals or plans that you hope to one day achieve. Writing it down would help engrave the thought of your goal into your mind and help you become more likely to achieve it.
9. Write Down Your Dreams
Didn’t you just say write down your goals? I did, yes, but I am talking about the dreams you had while you were sleeping. The stories that your mind created.
Don’t you ever have a really good or interesting dream that you want to share, but as soon as you go to share it you’ve forgotten the details of the dream or what the dream was about in general?
You should write the good ones down as soon as you wake up and then you won’t have the issue of forgetting.
10. Dental Hygiene
If you’re not already brushing your teeth in the morning, your breath must STINK BAD. Morning breath smells so bad. I can’t even stand my morning breath. I feel bad for all the people I’ve had sleepovers with.
Brush your teeth, rinse your mouth, do it all. I’ll be upset if dental hygiene isn’t on your ideal morning routine.
11. Skincare Routine
I don’t know what your skincare routine is or if you even have one but I hope you have one, like it, and are consistent with it. Washing your face sets you up for a clean and bright day. You’ll also clean out your facial pores that cause acne.
12. Facial Grooming
Maybe you grew some tiny hairs on your eyebrows, mustache, or beard overnight. Why not trim it first thing in the morning to make yourself feel better and cleaner (obviously don’t do anything if you don’t care or facial grooming doesn’t affect how you feel.)
13. Make Your Bed
Making the bed would make you feel very put together. Your life will feel complete and organized. Not to mention, you will feel like you’re living in luxury when you come back to a made bed later on in the day.
All you have to do is place the pillows nicely where they belong and straighten out the blankets. If you have extra stuff then do what you have to do to make the bed look neater.
14. Make And Eat Breakfast
I definitely think there is an ongoing debate about how important breakfast is. You should just do what you feel best doing. Some people only eat two meals a day and are just as fit and healthy as anyone else.
You can make your breakfast or go out and buy your breakfast. Try adding breakfast to your morning routine and fill your tummy up with some yummy goodies.
15. Morning Walk
If you have a nice neighborhood, I highly recommend taking a morning walk and enjoying nature. Mother Nature is providing you with a nice cool breeze and a newly risen sun.
16. Drink Some Warm Coffee, Tea, Or Any Other Warm Beverage
A warm drink is so relaxing. If you want a relaxing morning routine, taking a seat in a comfy shade, wrapped in a blanket, with a cup of a warm drink is definitely the way to go. If it’s wintertime, a warm drink is even better.
17. Prepare Your Clothes For The Day
Maybe you want to do this the night before. Maybe you want to do this the morning of. It’ll save you time in having to make decisions later on and make your life feel simpler.
18. Read
Okay, maybe don’t read as soon as you wake up. Read after you wash up, have your breakfast, and have given yourself time to get situated for the day. Read at some point in your morning routine.
19. Listen To Music
Instead of peace and quiet and natural singing (sometimes annoying) birds, why not play your own music and get pumped to the sounds you already know? You’ll be super ready for the day when you hear that one good song first thing in the morning.
20. Open The Curtains And/ Or Blinds
Open the curtains and/ or blinds to let that bright morning sunshine flow through. Nothing wakes you up more than the natural light from Mother Nature. (Especially since it may be the light that woke you up in the first place when there was a small crack that shined light directly onto your sleeping face. How rude of mother nature. Lol just kidding.)
21. Plan Out Your Day
You could use this time to plan out your future morning routines. It’s so easy!
I made a FREE morning routine printable that you can utilize for your planning and it will make planning so much more fun with this template.
If you want to plan your day other than your morning, then you can do that too. I don’t have a FREE printable template for a full day yet but I’m sure I’ll get to it. Stay tuned.
22. Plan Out Your Week
What’s better than planning out your day? Planning out your week! Like they always say, the more the merrier. You can take it up a notch and just go straight into planning the whole week ahead of you. You’ll feel so productive in the morning after this one.
23. Change Your Clothes
Change your clothes after you wake up, change your clothes after you exercise, change your clothes for whatever reason you want. The purpose of changing your clothes is to make you feel like a new and clean person. If you want to feel luxurious for your morning routine, you better change into clothes that make you feel luxurious. Yes, clothes are that powerful.
24. Eat An Early Lunch
Early lunch would be considered 11:00 am in my books. And 11:00 am is still an AM so we are still in the morning hence why eating an early lunch made it into this ideal morning routine list.
25. Bathroom Break
I hope you don’t plan on going 4+ hours without taking a bathroom break. Don’t forget to schedule a time to let your body do its natural thing.
26. Laundry
All you have to do is put clothes in the washer, add soap, let it wash, put the clothes in the dryer, take it out, fold it, and put it away. You’re right, that’s a lot to do. But you’ll feel so great and accomplished when you’re done!
Create Your Ideal Morning Routine With Me
Those were a lot of ideas and I definitely do not expect you to include every single one into your morning routine. Maybe you want to switch it up every now and then and now you have a lot of options to choose from. (You’re welcome.)
Now that you’ve seen the ideas, let’s build our ideal morning routine together. (If ours look completely different, that is NORMAL because we live different lives.) I encourage you to make it as detailed as possible. Here’s mine:
7:00 AM : Wake Up
I have been trying to wake up at 7:00 AM every day because 1) It’s good for you to wake up at the same time every day and 2) That gives me a good 5 hours to do my morning routine. I tried to do 6:00 AM once but it was too early for me to maintain. Waking up at 8:00 AM seemed too late for me. I was more likely to hit my snooze.
7:05 AM : Get Out Of Bed
Getting out of bed is literally the most difficult part of the day. Most of the time, I grab my phone and start scrolling through different blogs and reading different blog posts. (Not the popular social media like Instagram or Snapchat.) So, I am trying really hard to get out of that habit and to just get out of bed.
7:10 AM : Bathroom Break
I always let my body do its natural thin first thing in the morning. Every now and then, this process takes a little longer because I am on my period.
7:15 AM : Dental Hygiene
I feel SO gross and icky if I don’t brush my teeth first thing in the morning. I won’t eat and I won’t do anything productive until I have brushed my teeth.
7:20 AM : Skincare Routine
I actually don’t always do my skincare routine right after I brush my teeth because I am lazy a lot of the time. I would normally push it off until I have to leave the house.
But for my ideal morning routine, I want to do my skincare routine right after I brush my teeth because I am already in the bathroom with a semi-damp face so I might as well add a little more soap, wash my face, and put on my products. Then I won’t have to worry about coming back to the bathroom until my next bathroom break.
7:25 AM : Make My Bed
It’s kind of strange to think about how I don’t make my bed as soon as I wake up. But like I said, I will literally not do anything productive until I have brushed my teeth.
7:30 AM : Change My Clothes
This is when I would change into my workout clothes because I would be getting ready to head to the gym for a morning workout.
7:35 AM : Eat A Small Breakfast
Since I am dressed for the gym and plan on going to the gym, I need to fuel my body a little before I go. Technically, you’re not supposed to eat right before your work out which is why I am eating a small breakfast. Lately, I’ve been liking the Light + Fit Greek yogurt in the strawberry cheesecake flavor. It’s not much but it’s better than working out on an empty stomach.
7:45 AM : Clean The Dishes
If I clean my dishes now, I won’t have to do it later when I come back from the gym all tired and sweaty.
7:50 AM : Drive To The Gym
I didn’t include a drive to the gym on the list of morning routine ideas because I already had exercise as an item. Exercise could be related to driving to the gym going to the gym, exercising at home, exercising outside, anything so that is why I condensed it all into the item ‘exercise’.
8:00 AM : Workout
WOOHOO! We made it to the first hour of the ideal morning routine and I already feel like we have done a lot. I’m feeling really accomplished and it’s only 8:00 in the morning.
While I am at the gym, I generally like to stay for about 30-40 minutes at a time. Sometimes I only stay for 20 minutes. If you think it’s not enough then you and I have a different preference for working out.
I’ve noticed that if I work out for any longer than that, I’ll feel more discouraged from coming back to the gym the next day. Going to the gym for about 30 minutes at a time makes me feel like I am doing good for my body without it feeling like a burden.
Also, if I aim to be at the gym for an hour, I start running out of ideas to fill the time and it ends up just being me wasting time trying to think of what I want to do next.
8:35 AM : Drive Home
I listen to the post work out jams for the 10 minutes that I am driving (lol it’s just the radio with today’s hit songs.)
8:40 AM : Put My Personal Belongings Away
I’ll hang up my keys, purse, and refill my water bottle to drink throughout the rest of the day.
8:45 AM : Make And Eat Breakfast
Yes, yes, yes, I don’t shower as soon as I get home because I am starving by now.
I like to make oatmeal with a different mix of milk, brown sugar, salt, blueberries, chocolate chips, strawberries, and honey. My oatmeal is different every time I make it but they always include a mixture of some of these items.
9:15 AM : Clean The Dishes (Again)
I was raised to always keep the sink clean and that if I clean it now then I won’t have to later. So yes, I am washing the dishes again. (I have gone days without washing the dishes before and it’s not pretty. So wash your dishes every day at least.)
9:30 AM : Check Emails, Blog, HW Assignments
I get emails from school at least once a day and emails from notifications at least once a day too.
The blogging process is currently in the stage where I still do not entirely know what I am doing. I feel saner about it if I check on it every single day to make sure it is up and running and my blog posts are uploading on time.
I check my homework assignments during this time too so that I can mentally prepare myself for what I need to do later on in the day.
9:55 AM : Bathroom Break
I originally didn’t have this time block for a bathroom break and definitely added this one last minute because I was bugging you earlier to schedule bathroom breaks.
10:00 AM : Shower
It’s time for the shower! All my sweat has dried and is clinging to my skin making me feel both smooth and sticky all at the same time.
10:20 AM : Plan Out My Day
Thinking back to my list of homework assignments and their due dates, I’ll write in my planner which assignments I want to do, the order I want to do them in, and the amount of time I predict it will take me to make progress without burning myself out.
10:35 AM : Do My Homework
Doing homework isn’t really that fun but I have noticed that I learn best during the day when the sun is bright and shining through my windows. (If you were wondering, my brain starts shutting down after 2:30 pm. It’s weird, I know.)
12:00 PM : Ending My Ideal Morning Routine By Making And Eating Lunch
Well, it’s technically not morning anymore but this is the last thing that I do to end my morning routine. Most of the time, I have leftovers because I have to cook in bulk as a college student.

Ending Note
I am in college so I get a little more free time at home than the average person.
Obviously, I can’t follow this ideal morning routine every single day because I have classes, a part-time job, and social life.
Fortunately, I do get at least one day a week to incorporate this morning routine and I make sure this ideal morning routine happens. I always feel so happy when I do.
I have created a FREE morning routine printable that I think you would find very useful. You can just fill in the blanks with the activities that you would like to do for every hour or half-hour (or whatever small increment of your choosing.) So start building your ideal morning routine!
Honestly, it’s so fun. I love love love planning and planning a morning routine is no exception. Hopefully, you stick to your morning routine. If you don’t, you can try again next time and just enjoy the luxury of planning.
I’d like to know how you planned your morning routine, what worked, what didn’t work, and what you love most about your self-built ideal morning routine. Have a good day!
