So you want to know the tips to start a YouTube channel. Well, guess what. Me too! This is everything that I learned and realized when I attempted to start my YouTube channel and when I actually started my YouTube channel. Have fun reading.
We see all this wide variety of YouTubers out there that make their life so fun and showcase their professional editing skills. Why can’t we do it too? We can! We just have a lot of obstacles to get over before we actually take the plunge and do it.
I know we are all scared and too embarrassed to start but that’s how all the big YouTubers started out too. Just do it and don’t look back.

3 Tips To Start A YouTube Channel
1. Do Some Editing Research
Watch other YouTubers that you enjoy. Instead of focusing on their content, focus on the way they speak, how they edit, and what effects they add to their videos to keep the audience engaged.
In the videos that I’ve watched and “analyzed” while also enjoying the content, I realized that they all utilize zoom effects. Most of the YouTubers I watch also utilize text on-screen whether it be for humor elements or just as subtitles. I plan on taking everything I see and incorporating it into my own videos.
If you like what these many different YouTubers are doing, then start out by trying to replicate it. Over time, you’ll realize what you do and don’t like.
The software that I use to edit my videos is Wondershare Filimora X. I just went ahead and bought the lifetime version because I knew when I bought it that I wouldn’t be using it every month.
I was right because I actually purchased Wondershare half a year ago and just now started using it again. So you can imagine how much money I would’ve lost.
2. Think of What Makes You Original
Most YouTubers have the “thing” that they are known for. I guess it’s called a niche. That could be fashion, fitness, aesthetic editing skills, anything. What do you want to be known for? How will you showcase that?
I personally have no idea whatsoever what I can do to make my videos original. I will literally be filming myself living life until I feel comfortable on camera to do something else.
Maybe the easiest to start out with is originality in editing skills?
3. Just Post Something!
Get over that fear of your first video not being very good. Get over that first step and get over the stress of getting the first video perfect.
No matter how hard you try to make the video perfectly with the perfect edits and the perfect sound effects, it will never be perfect and you will never be satisfied. So, just upload it.
In five years when you are still filming videos of yourself and getting those thousands of views, you’ll be glad you had the courage to just start.
4. BONUS
Lol Nah, that’s all I have for you because I’m new too. Good luck!
What It Really Feels Like To Start A YouTube Video
1. Why Am I Starting A YouTube Channel
I always thought that I would start a YouTube channel to make money, become a rising internet star, and become semi-famous. But that never ended up happening. I didn’t know what to record. I didn’t know what to do.
Whenever I did try I was too awkward. So, starting a YouTube channel was just in the back of my mind for a few years.
Now that I’ve gotten back into watching YouTube and caught up with the YouTubers I used to watch, I realized that all their videos are documentation of their memories. Therefore, I wanted to be able to do the same.
2. It Feels Exciting
Okay, if we want to be completely honest, it was super nerve-racking until I made the leap and scheduled my first YouTube video. Yes. I have a video uploaded now and you can check it out at the bottom of the post. It’s super short.
It’s a little under 3 minutes long and it’s literally just a bunch of photos and some clips from 2021. Nothing special at all but now I have passed that first video phase. I feel less stressed and so relieved.
Most of my YouTube endeavors now are me thinking about how fun it was to edit that video and how proud I am of having the courage to put myself on the internet.
I will admit that my first video is not the best and maybe the worst thing I have EVER created. But it being so bad is what makes this all so exciting.
I am excited to see how much I will learn and grow as I go along this YouTube journey.
3. What If I Get Made Fun Of
This thought was the biggest factor in why I didn’t start a YouTube channel sooner. I loved how the YouTubers I watched shared their morning routines and inspired me to try and live my best life. But what I wanted to do the most was share my own life and have that same impact on other people as well.
Anyway, a good chunk of my friends doesn’t watch the same videos as I do.
I’m into healthy lifestyle YouTubers that show their daily routines, vlogs, travels, and how they are thriving in life. Most of my friends watch gaming videos, challenge videos, or short meme videos (that I don’t understand half the time).
So, I’m just afraid that since I’m going to follow the lifestyle route, my friends will frown upon it and think I’m wasting my time.
4. I Might Not Have Enough Time To Keep Up With YouTube
I’m the kind of person that likes to start activities and go full force with them if I find them enjoyable. After scheduling my first video, I realized that editing is really fun. I’d rather be doing that than doing my homework (lol who wouldn’t).
But the thing is, I have school and I have this blog too. I also work a part-time job. Will adding YouTube be too much for me? I definitely don’t want to stop the blog because I love writing about my thoughts and feelings and sharing them. I don’t know.
I’ll try this, see how it goes, and just roll with it. If I get slammed, YouTube will be the first to go on pause.
5. I’m Super Awkward On Camera
I’m sure almost everyone feels this way and actually is this way when they first start a YouTube channel.
They don’t know the right voice projection to use while they’re filming. They don’t know where to look. Words are being fumbled. The list goes on and on.
I’m no exception. I tried starting a YouTube channel over the last year.
I filmed some videos but I didn’t like how I looked or sounded in them. There were times when I did sit down and try to edit them but even with editing and adding effects to it, it didn’t satisfy my creative insides. So I deleted it.
However, for some reason, I decided to just throw a video together and just upload it. And so my very first video on YouTube that you’re going to see is very amateur-looking.
I could’ve done better. I knew I could’ve done better as soon as I scheduled it for upload. Then why didn’t I redo it? Because I wanted to get past the nerves of uploading my first YouTube video.
Now, I feel like I can do this, even if I am awkward on camera.

Great tips! i always wanted to start a booktube channel but my main issue is your tip # 4 🙂
I’d love that you are still trying even though you feel you won’t have the time. Many YouTubers take breaks so I hope you feel comfortable doing so if needed. I just subscribed. Good luck!

Thank you! I’ve been filming myself to practice being comfortable on camera and I highly doubt any of them will be published but overall I’m having a blast with it. Thank you for reading!
