It doesn’t matter whether it’s a marriage anniversary or an anniversary that your new love has reached. An anniversary is an anniversary. There are also lots of other anniversaries that don’t pertain to romantic partners but I will be touching on the romantic side of this topic.
My boyfriend and I just celebrated the 2 year anniversary of our relationship which is how this post came to be. We ended up going out to dinner at this really nice place. But maybe that’s not what you want to do for yours. So here are 9 other ideas in addition to a dinner date.

10 Best Ways To Celebrate Your Anniversary
1. Lunch Picnic
I don’t know about you but I love going on picnics outside. It can be at a park, on the beach, or even my driveway. Something about eating on a picnic blanket makes it seem so much more special and adventurous.
It’s more of a new change of location type for me. Having a picnic for lunch is a nice way to get some sunlight, fresh air, and quality time with your partner.
For food, you could pack some homemade sandwiches, cut up fruit, bring a pizza from a pizza place, or all 3! (I would probably order a pizza and bring that if we want to be completely honest.
Consider going on a picnic lunch! It’s a cute idea.
2. Dinner Out
I feel like a dinner out is very common when it comes to celebrating anything. Why wouldn’t you want your favorite dishes prepared by someone else?
For dinner out, you could go to your and your partner’s favorite place as a couple or a new place that you have never been to.
I’m all about new experiences so my boyfriend and I always go for new locations as our backup plan if we don’t already have a place in mind.
3. Home Dinner
For your anniversary, you could keep it simple and personal by staying home and cooking a meal together. You can play some good music, cool your favorite meals, and even light up some candles to match the vibes.
If you want to go even more extra, you could also dress up as if you were going out too. Who said you needed to go out to have a romantic night?
I am very into pasta dishes when it comes to fancy or romantic dinners (maybe not macaroni and cheese). I am not entirely sure why but that’s just how I see pasta. What’s your go-to romantic dish?
4. Go On Vacation
Whenever my anniversaries come around, I know for sure that I am going to want to go places. Whether it be tropical or snowy (most likely tropical) I will want to be anywhere but home.
I love a new change of pace and the vacation always does it for me. When going on vacation, you and your partner can choose to go to a new location or to one of your personal favorites.
I honestly do say this all the time, but I would normally try to go to a new place to broaden my experiences. I feel like if I keep going to the same places over and over again, I would be missing out on the rest of the world. \
Have a little getaway together!
5. Give Each Other Gifts
My boyfriend and I aren’t really big on gift-giving but I know that it’s very common to give gifts on an anniversary. You can make gifts for your partner such as writing letters to them or putting together a little photo album.
You could also gift them with a spa day, a trip, or a nice meal that you know they would enjoy. The list is endless.
Personally, I would love vacation as my gift. I’m a sucker for traveling anywhere new.
6. Have a Movie Date
Going on a movie date is a classic for when you’re first dating but you can also have movie dates for your anniversary too! You can turn back time and relive the dates that your younger selves used to go on including watching movies.
You can watch movies from home on streaming platforms or you can do it old school and set up the DVD players. And obviously, there is the option where you can go to a movie theater, order some theater popcorn, and watch the movie in the presence of other people too.
7. Recreate Your First Date
In reference to the previous tip of reliving your previous dates, you can be even more particular about it and recreate your FIRST date with your partner. Hopefully, one of you remembers how it went.
Try to get as many details down as possible. Where did you go? What did you do? What foods did you eat? Do you remember what you were wearing? Try to remember as much as you can.
Not only will those activities be extremely fun and sort of a new experience, but you’ll also take a trip down memory lane.
8. Recreate Your Honeymoon
If recreating your first date will be too difficult whether it’s that you both have a bad memory or that it’s been so long since your first date, you can recreate your honeymoon instead.
I feel like honeymoons are much easier to remember because at this point you’ve had so many experiences together beforehand. Your honeymoon is most likely the one memory that had the most thought put into it and also has a significant meaning behind it.
9. Visit Where You Got Married
A fun little activity for your anniversary would be to visit the place you got married! It doesn’t matter whether you got married in your hometown or had a destination wedding. It just takes some planning and making sure you’re getting to where you want to go.
If you had a destination wedding, you’re probably going to want to give yourself at least 2-3 months in advance to book flights or get days off or whatever you need to make sure you go to your wedding location when you want to.
10. Try On Your Wedding Attire
I may not be married yet but I know for sure that every year when my wedding anniversary comes around, I’m going to be trying on my wedding dress. Why would I do this you ask? Well, why not??
I want to see how my body changes over the years or even how many years later I can still fit into my wedding dress. And not only that, your partner can participate and you’ll be sort of recreating the day you both tied the knot. How cute and fun, right??
If you both don’t fit your wedding attire anymore, that just makes the entire experience that much more enjoyable. You can laugh together.
11. Do Nothing
I know I said I only had 10 ways to celebrate your anniversary. I didn’t really plan to talk about this but you could also just do nothing with your partner.
If you and your partner aren’t the celebratory types, why not just pretend like it’s any other day?
If you already love each other so much that you don’t need one day to celebrate your love, then you do you. Whatever makes you happy.
Ending Note
Alright, those were the 10 ways I thought you should think about when you celebrate your anniversary. If you really put your creative mind to it, you can literally do whatever you want for your anniversary.
