How To Choose The Next Restaurant To Eat At
1. Why Do You Want To Eat Out?
Knowing your reason for eating out will help you decide where you want to eat because it will help you know the kind of atmosphere you want to be in.
Is this a special occasion? Do you need to dress up and eat at a fancier restaurant than normal? This could be birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, engagements, any major celebration.
Or if you’re on the other side of the spectrum where you just want the luxury feeling of someone else making a meal for you, then you may go for fast food or a location that is more casual.
I get too lazy to prepare a meal or cook for myself too, you’re not alone. Although, I treat eating out as an occasional thing and lean more towards fast food and casual restaurants. I hardly ever go to fancy restaurants because most of them don’t provide the kind of food that would be worth the price.
Once you’ve decided on what kind of atmosphere and vibe you want your meal to be, then you can start asking yourself the next set of questions.
2. What Food Are You Feeling?
The type of food you’re craving is the first step to choosing where you want to eat next. What kind of food are you craving? American? Italian? Asian? Hispanic? What do your taste buds tell you?
My taste buds are not the most reliable I admit. My two favorite foods are sushi (you already knew that) and buffalo wings. When I have one, I want the other. But how do you make a decision when you can’t decide between two really tasty options?
The trick is to flip a coin. Choose heads for one food and tails for the other. While the coin is flipping, your brain is going to crave one over the other. Or when it has been flipped and the results are revealed, you’ll either be sad or happy.
Let’s say I wanted either sushi for heads or wings for tails. The coin is being flipped and it lands on sushi. I love sushi so that’s a great option; however, I’m not feeling sushi and I’d rather have wings instead.
You don’t have to listen to your coin. The coin just makes it easier for you to come to a clearer decision.
3. What Is Your Budget?
After you’ve decided what kind of food you want to eat, you need to be thinking about your budget. It was hard for me to decide whether you should think about the food your feeling or your taste buds first but I decided to make setting a budget second.
The food you are feeling is probably the reason you want to eat at a restaurant so it makes sense to have that as #1 on the list first.
Determining your budget when choosing a restaurant to eat at is important so that you are being responsible with your finances. You need to think about how much money you can spend at this moment and what you can afford.
You don’t want to eat at a three-dollar sign restaurant ($$$) on a whim because of your seafood craving when you only have enough money to pay for a two-dollar sign ($$) meal.
Setting a budget can also break down the restaurant options you have too. If you decided to go to a $$ restaurant, then you’ll ignore all the $$$ and $$$$ restaurants.
Budgeting will make your decision easier.

4. How Are The Reviews?
After You have decided on your budget and chosen a location, how are the reviews?
Google normally has visitor comment reviews when you look up a restaurant. You can also see reviews on yelp too. I personally use both because the more reviews the better.
If you want to be spontaneous, then you could choose a restaurant based on the star rating only or just go to the restaurant for an element of surprise.
Whenever I am choosing a restaurant, I try to be as thorough as I possibly can. I’ll look at the star review, the comments, and the images (if there are any).
There are days where I do decide to go somewhere new spontaneous but 9/10 when I don’t do research beforehand, it’s not a good place to eat at.
So, I highly recommend you spend most of your restaurant endeavors doing your research to ensure you get the best dine-in experience. (Unless you like the bad dine-in experiences too then go for it.)
5. Have You Been To This Location Before?
Have you been to the place you chose before? If not, this is a great opportunity for you to try new foods in a new location!
Many people prefer places that are familiar to them and I do too. But this preference is something that people are going to have to get over eventually.
What happens if your go-to restaurant shuts down? You’re forced to try a new place. So while you still have your go-to restaurants, why not broaden your interests and have a variety to choose from?
You don’t want to skip out on this new restaurant because it has the potential to become one of your favorite spots too. But how would you know if you don’t go?
If you have been to this location before, then you know what to expect. You probably have a regular consistent order too. But now I have another question for you on the next point.
6. How Long Has It Been Since You’ve Been There?
Did you go to this location last week? Did you go yesterday? Is this place good enough for you to go again so soon?
My preference would be to choose another location because I like variety. I would also risk getting tired of eating at a good restaurant if I eat there too much too often.
Choosing to go to a different or new restaurant will keep your life more spiced up and plentiful. You don’t want to look back on your life and only have memories of one restaurant, do you?
Obviously, you don’t have to listen to anything I am saying so if you decide to eat at this location anyway even though you were just here, I would advise you at least try a new dish on the menu.
If you’ve already had everything on the menu because you’ve been here so many times, then you do you. I don’t know what else to tell you.
Enjoy your meal regardless!
Ending Note
I hope all these tips help make it easier for you to choose the next restaurant to eat at. Since I follow these tips when I want to eat out, my dine-in experience is almost always enjoyable and tasty.
